The Resurrection Prophesied

by Dotty Cockcroft

But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.
And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God!  I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!
Job 19:25-27, NLT

When Jesus and the writers of the New Testament referred to the ‘Scriptures’, they were talking about what we call the ‘Old Testament’, and what the Jews call the Tanach. Recently I have been reading a book written by a Messianic Jew which seeks to explain many things in the Old Testament in the light of The New Testament. I have received so much revelation and seen many precursors to the New Testament and the life of Jesus, the Messiah.

We have recently been celebrating Easter and focussing on the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. As Christians we consider this to be the most important thing in the Bible and in history. The writer of the book pointed out that the thing which makes Jesus death and resurrection so important is that they are the fulfilment of God’s promise, foretold all through the Old Testament (or Tanach, as he preferred to call it).

There are so many prophecies and pictures in the Old Testament which are explained in Jesus. For example there are the blood sacrifices for sin, the bronze snake on a pole, representing sin, held up to bring healing to the Israelites in the dessert (Numbers 21:8), Jonah spending three nights in the belly of the whale (like Jesus being dead for three days), to name just a few. We also have today’s verses where Job prophesies about the resurrection, even in the midst of his anguish.

Jesus told us that He had come to give us peace. In these days of uncertainty in the world, there is incredible peace in knowing that the plans and provision of our Heavenly Father, Almighty God have been, and are being, fulfilled in our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has overcome the world (John 16:33).

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You so much that, right from the beginning, You made provision for our salvation and healing in Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Please open our minds and hearts to see more of Your provision and plans for us in Your word. Amen.
