I was trying for years to quit smoking. I would give up for few days and would get back into the habit. But ever since I walked out of the retreat I haven't smoked and I truly feel redeemed..... Read More...

The Lord Frees Prisoners

by Tanya Person

Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them. He remains faithful forever, executing justice for the exploited and giving food to the hungry. The Lord frees prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord raises up those who are oppressed. The Lord loves the righteous.
Psalm 146:5-8, HCSB

We recently completed a Modular School and ended with two days of personal ministry appointments for the students. It was so exciting to hear their testimonies on the last evening, as one after another came up to testify with huge smiles on their faces, telling what God had done in their lives over the two days. God truly did raise up the oppressed and free the prisoners!

We can frequently find ourselves trapped in a prison of our own making, whether through sin or unforgiveness, but as our verses today say, God remains faithful forever and frees the prisoners! As we bring to Him all our hurts and pains, our sin, and our unforgiveness, He’s faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and help us to release others in forgiveness, so we can be truly free! Our sin separates us from God. Unforgiveness of others hinders our ability to receive God’s forgiveness. But on the cross Jesus paid the price for all our sin, and provides the way for us to restore our relationship with Him.

When we turn to the Lord, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to us any areas where we need to repent, we see a transformation in our lives. The Lord loves the righteous. We can never be righteous in our own strength, but through Jesus, we can be righteous! It’s so amazing that God, the Maker of heaven and earth, loves us so much that He wants us to be free, to have everything we need, and most importantly, to have a relationship with Him! AND He paid the price, through Jesus, so that we could experience all that He has for us!

Are you in a prison today? Are you trapped in an old way of thinking or behaving? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you why you’re trapped and bring it to Him. Repent of your sin, and allow Him to set you free!

Have you been set free? Then walk as one who’s been set free! Be happy, because God is your help and hope! Rejoice in the faithfulness of God and share your testimony with others!

Prayer: Lord, I ask that You would reveal to me any areas where I’m still a prisoner and where You want to set me free. Forgive me for the areas where I’m holding unforgiveness or have hidden sin. Set me free to be everything that You want me to be. Let me rejoice in Your faithfulness and share Your hope and healing with others.
Amen.
