‘Tesla’ Experience

Recently our son had the opportunity to ride in a Tesla car. It fascinated him so much that he has become a Tesla lover ever since. I must admit that the car is totally different to anything I have experienced. It’s electric, quiet on the inside, and it blocks outside noise. It has the option of self-drive, as well as ‘dancing’ mode, which blinks the lights, opens and closes the doors, the windows, and the boot, to music. Its acceleration is pretty amazing as well.
Our five-year-old son was blown away by this experience and has been interested in this type of car, ever since, loving to watch them on the TV.
This morning, as we were having our breakfast, he told me that he was sad. When I asked him why, he told me that our car is not the same as the one he sees on the TV. Well, the truth is that our car is far from what he was referring to. We have a lovely car. However, it doesn’t do all the fascinating things he was talking about.
As we continued with our breakfast, chatting away, I had a unique opportunity to speak to him about the importance of valuing what we have, rather than being upset about what we don’t have. We could be forever sad because our car is not like the neighbour’s car, and our house is not like our friend’s house. We could find many reasons to be sad, as we look at what others have. Or we could choose to be grateful for what we do have, and treasure what the Lord has blessed us with. We could decide to count our blessings rather than being sad about what we don’t have.
As we continued with our breakfast chat, I could see my son’s face brightening up. His sadness was gone, and excitement came back.
As you read this little story today, may it encourage you to find something you are grateful to the Lord for today. We might not be where we would want to be, or have what we would like to have, but our happiness and contentment should not lie in our possessions. Don’t let the lack of them snatch away the joy of the Lord.
May we remember the faithfulness of the Lord to us, whether we are in plenty or in need. The Bible says, ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good’ (Psalm 34:8).
The way we view our circumstances or the challenges of life comes down to the choice we make about them. I like the example of two prisoners who looked out of the window of their cell. One saw prison bars. The other saw blue sky. What are we choosing to see today?
