Teach Me
by Jim Person
I had a desire for a new deck leading into my home. Unfortunately, I didn’t have all the skills to do it myself and I lacked the knowledge to be confident enough to do it alone. One time I took a project on by myself and later, looking at the finished result, it was crooked and out of square. It was a wonky mess.
So, this time, I humbled myself and asked a good friend to teach me how to do it right. He came, and together we built a lovely deck that will be used for years to come.
In today’s passage, the psalmist writes of his desire to be taught by the Lord. He expresses his desire to learn how to do God’s will. In verse 8, he asks for help in where to place his feet and gives himself into the Father’s hands.
How often we miss out on opportunities to learn from the Lord when we forge ahead in our own understanding! I find myself being stubborn and determined to do it myself when tasks are before me, and afterwards find that they are not square and look wonky.
What a good teacher we have, as with such patience and lovely wisdom He gently helps us undo our wonky mess! Then with His strong fatherly hands, He shows us the right way.
Are you attempting to make your own way in your situation? Do you find yourself thinking your way is best? Let God help you out with His gentle instructions today, and discover His way is the better way.
