Safety

The LORD then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation”.
Genesis 7:1, NIV

‘Go into the Ark, you and your whole family’; those were God’s instructions to Noah in the final days before judgement was poured out on the then known world. Noah was obedient and faithful to God in his generation, first building the Ark to God’s precise instructions and then warning the people to repent and that the end was near. However, when the time came only eight were saved!

At the cross our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ became the new Ark which God Himself prepared for the saving of His people. In His mercy God has always provided a window of opportunity for mankind to escape…giving us ‘space to repent’.

The Bible is clear ‘As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man’. In other words life will continue as normal with people going about their everyday business, oblivious of the spiritual danger that they are in, as the mire of corruption sucks them in like quicksand - comparable to that of Noah’s day. However, just as stark and clear as the warnings that God has given in the Holy Bible are the signs of our Lord’s Second Coming which come through the news channels on our TV screens repeatedly each day.

With earthquakes proliferating in diverse places, universal banking systems tottering, nations in uproar… all are signs that the Age of Grace as we know it is fast coming to a close. It is as though the Lord is standing on the balustrades of Heaven and shouting ‘Go into the Ark, you and your whole family’. The Church (universal) seems to be sleep walking its way through life. The urgency of God’s call in these last days is no less forceful than it was in Noah’s day. It carries with it an emergency warning of imminent danger… of impending doom.

Are we preparing as Noah did; about our Heavenly Father’s business, praying our families, friends and nations into the safety of the Ark of God’s presence in the Lord Jesus Christ? The name of Jesus is the only name under Heaven given among men whereby we MUST BE SAVED. ‘Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved’ (Acts 4:12). Or are we among those with dissenting voices who still think… The Lord delays His coming. There are plenty of things to happen yet! (Matthew 24:48). No doubt there were those who still thought that way right up to the day when God closed the door of the Ark – who, alas, then found it was too late. If only they could have turned the clock back 60 seconds…or more!

Jesus painted a verbal picture of what would happen in the last days when at His coming the five wise virgins made sure they were ready, but the five foolish virgins were not (Matthew 25:1-13). What will it take to make men call upon the name of the Lord?

Prayer: Dear Lord, Help us to live holy and consecrated lives and be ready for Your return as You have warned us to be. Help us also to continue to pray earnestly for our loved ones who are still not in the safety of Your protection. Amen.
