“You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”
“Your word is truth”.
John 8:32 NKJV and John 17:17 NKJV

In an imperfect world God sends His perfect word. He is not slack concerning His promise. Though much of today’s world is saturated with fake news and people choose to disregard God’s word at their peril, yet the word of the Lord abides forever.

In scripture, a very elderly Jacob found himself unwittingly the subject of what would be termed fake news in today’s culture, when his sons presented him with the unwelcome news of the seemingly tragic death of his favourite son Joseph by a wild animal. For years his life was blighted by the falsehood of that information.

In truth, Joseph was very much alive, and himself going through the process of navigating the purposes of God having been sold to the Midianites by his brothers. He prospered in the house of Potiphar, until the false accusation of Potiphar’s wife manoeuvred him into prison. However in the purposes of God, this would be the very prison from which Joseph would rise to become second in line to Pharaoh at a time of national tragedy when a worldwide famine would assail the nations. The favour of God does not mean there won’t be difficulties, it just means that God is right there with you manoeuvring you through and delivering you in the fiery trials.

In time, by the grace of God, the truth would emerge and after years of mourning his dead son, Jacob would learn that not only was Joseph alive, but that God had made Joseph lord of Egypt. The shock of such news stunned Jacob, and his spirit, filled with new hope, sprang back to life and flourished as depression left. “When they told him everything that Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived” (Gen 45:27 Amp)

Through the goodness of God, an old man’s hope in life was restored, Joseph’s beleaguered brothers found forgiveness after years of guilt following the sins of their youth, and the much maligned Joseph suddenly found himself catapulted into a God-ordained position indicated to him in a dream many years previously. God provided for them all, physically, emotionally and spirituality, including the surrounding nations.

Things aren’t always what they seem. God can bring hope out of the most desperate of situations and if there’s one thing we can depend on it’s the living Word of God. The truth of God’s word will snap every chain and break every fetter. In the twists and turns of life the Word of the Lord permeates our circumstances.

So don’t lose hope because of the hardness of the way. He who is the Hope of the world and the lifter of our heads is at work behind the scenes. For it is God who always causes us to triumph, and He is utterly, utterly dependable.

Prayer:Dear Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on you and to keep walking in the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. May my heart adhere to your word, no matter what the world may say. Thank you Lord Jesus that you are the Hope of the world in life’s uncertain times. In Jesus Name. Amen.
