Promises
by Vicky Munro
I recently came across an article that was talking about the promises of God, and how there are over 7,000 promises in the Bible. It got me thinking about the promises from God to us and whether they are still relevant to us today.
Jeremiah 29:11 sprung to my mind as a promise over my life about how God has a plan for me, one that I have seen being fulfilled in my life today. I went to look to see if I could find any more promises that were relevant to me personally, and I’d like to share a couple. ‘“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go’” (Joshua 1:9). This is a promise that God will never leave me, and He is with me wherever I go. So, I don’t need to be afraid.
Another promise that really spoke to me was that Jesus has come to give us life and that we may have life abundantly. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy us, but Jesus promises us life (John 10:10). Jesus loves and cares for me so that He came to give me life, and not just life here on earth, but eternal life!
I wonder if you are struggling with life today. Maybe you need to be reminded that God’s promises are for you. They are relevant for you today. The word of God is full of them. I encourage you to go and see how many you can find. Ask God to show you His promises for your life, then and stand on those promises today. I find it helpful to write them down and stick them up on my wall, where I can see them and be reminded of them daily. God’s word is truth and will never come back to Him void. Hold on to His promises and claim them today.
