My Tongue Will Talk

by Pam Smith

My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to Thee, my soul also which Thou has rescued. My tongue will talk of Thy righteous help all the day long.
Psalm 71:23-24, RSV

I was interested in how David continually spoke about the goodness of the Lord in Psalm 71. He says; ‘My praise is continual’, ‘my mouth is filled’, ‘my words will tell’, ‘I will praise’, ‘I still proclaim’, ‘I will sing’, ‘my lips will shout and my tongue will talk’. The Psalmist just can’t keep quiet about the Lord.

How often do I actually talk about Jesus to those who know Him? I spend a lot of time talking about myself, what I am doing, people’s problems, the day’s news or a host of trivial things that don’t really matter at all. How often do I speak about the Lord, as my best friend, the great things He has done, and how much His love is changing everything. How often do I speak of the great future He’s preparing, His answers to prayer and how to share this glorious news with others?

Malachi 3.16 says ‘Those that feared and loved the Lord spoke often with one another about Him and a book of remembrance was made for them’.

Let’s remember always to talk to each other about Jesus. It glorifies the Lord and encourages the soul. It makes our hearts burn within us when we share about the love He has for us. Even more so when we pray, praise and talk with Him together, for when we do this He promises to be there, right in the midst of us.

Prayer: Dear Lord, may we always put You first in our conversation, giving You top priority in our sharing and thinking. May we always be prepared for the opportunities to share the gospel with those that don’t know you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
