Seeds of the Kingdom

Lord of lords

On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.
Revelation 19:16, NLT

The other day, in his sermon, our vicar said that what we want, and need, is for Jesus Christ to be Lord in our nation. He then added that once upon a time that would have been a perfectly acceptable thing to say here in the UK but that nowadays it is a radical thing to say, because lots of people don’t want Jesus to be Lord.

Every day we see stories in our newspapers and media broadcasts which seem to confirm that what my Vicar said is true. Perhaps in your nation as well you hear of un-Godly things which the government and society are trying to get enshrined in your laws.

However, whether people like it or not, or believe it or not, our God is sovereign, and Jesus is and will be Lord. The day will come when everyone will acknowledge that. In Isaiah 45:22-23, God says, “Let all the world look to me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other. I have sworn by my own name; I have spoken the truth, and I will never go back on my word: Every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to me.”

Later on, when Paul is writing his letter to the Philippians, he explains Jesus’ position. In Chapter 2, verses 9-11, he says, ‘God elevated him to the place of highest honour and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father’.

So, when you are feeling discouraged, or the darkness in the world seems to be closing in, take heart and remember these words of our Father God about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Because these words are the truth, they will be fulfilled.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord Jesus, for the revelation that You are King of kings and Lord of lords. Help me to rest in that truth and to trust You. Amen.
