Seeds of the Kingdom

Light at the End of the Tunnel

by

We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you.
2 Corinthians 8:12, NKJV

We all have bad days. Sometimes these days turn into weeks. Sometimes the weeks turn into months, and sometimes even into years. We live in a fallen world with broken human beings, and unexpected things happen that will shake our worlds and shake even the very foundations of what we believe. If we live in Jesus, then there is great hope that we can hold on to. Scripture says that we are always given over to death for the Lord’s sake, but we are not given to despair.

It is a supernatural paradox that we can face trials and tribulations, hardship and sickness, and still rejoice, because these things strengthen our faith and push us toward the Lord. Perhaps one of the best things we can do is be real with our stuff and come as we are to the Lord. It might not feel comfortable, because we are taught to always have our Christian answers ready and our Christian masks ready to show that we are OK, and, no matter what we face, we are doing OK. But if we were to take our mask off, others would see the real person behind it.

God wants us to be honest, to come to Him as we are, even if we are hurt and weak. And here’s the beautiful promise He has given us. He will give us rest. The hope that we have is that, no matter what we face, it can be used for the glory of God and for our good. We are being renewed inwardly. Romans 8:28 is great comfort to every believer in all situations. ‘All things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose’. There are no exceptions.

This does not mean it is easy to go through hardship, or that we should just flip a switch and try be tough. God gave us emotions, and they are good. Both sadness and anger are emotions. These feelings are not evil. We are to walk through them with the Lord, and ask Him how to express them in the way He intended us to.
