Light and Truth

O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me.
Psalm 43:3, KJV

What is it that leads us? On what basis do we make our decisions?

Sometimes I make decisions based on my emotions; how I feel about something. Do I feel like it’s right or wrong? But if we haven’t given God control of our emotions, we could be overflowing with previous emotions which lead us to over-react to a situation. When we give God control of our emotions, bringing them to Him, then we can be led by His truth.

Many people in the world today are living in fear and that fear is leading them in their decision making. How much better if we can bring our fear to God, let Him shine His light on our path and make our decisions while listening to Him? Only through His light and truth will the lies of the enemy be exposed so that we can walk with assurance that God is directing our steps and will prepare the way before us. It has been said, “Where God guides, He provides,” and we have seen that many times in the ministry and in our family life.

Let’s be like the tree in Psalm 1:3 ‘planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.’ This is describing the man who delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on His word. God’s truth is like the stream providing water and God’s light is like the sun, so that the tree grows and bears fruit by staying firmly planted.

Prayer: Lord, help me stay firmly planted in You, watered by Your truth and fed by Your light, that I may bear fruit for Your glory and not wither when fears in this world abound. Amen.
