Seeds of the Kingdom

King Cherries

by Gemma Gardner

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations”.
Matthew 28:18-19, NLT

I was out shopping at my usual local supermarket when I discovered some beautiful fruit called ‘King’ cherries. I love cherries and, as soon as they come into season, I like to get some. I bought a punnet of the King cherries, and, when I got home, had some after lunch. They were big and juicy, and I was pleased I had bought them.

My mother-in-law loves cherries, and Dean and I go and visit his parents every week. We have been getting shopping for them as they are not able to get to the shops themselves. So, this week I decided it would be nice to get some King cherries for Mum to try. I was eager for her to see how good they are.

I did the twenty-minute walk to the supermarket and got the cherries. As I was walking home, I was thinking about Dean’s Mum and how I wanted to share my blessing with her. Then I started to think about King Jesus. Dean and I are praying for opportunities to share with his parents about the Lord Jesus and how they need to know Him as their Lord and Saviour before their time on earth comes to an end.

Dean has faithfully shared the Gospel with them in different ways over the years, but I was challenged. I am praying for an opportunity to talk with Mum about King Jesus, and how He is King in my life. In Psalm 34:8 we read, ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!’ King cherries taste really good, but the joy of knowing Jesus my Lord is far greater.

If you have loved ones in your family who are not yet believers, do not give up hope. Keep praying and looking out for those opportunities to share with them what Jesus means to you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are patiently waiting and longing for people to turn to You and to understand what Jesus did for us when He died on that cross. As I am praying for Dean’s parents, I also pray for any who are reading this Seed and who have family members who do not believe in You. I pray you will encourage them to persevere in prayer and in showing Your love in different ways as You give opportunities. Thank You, Father, that You hear our prayers and know our longings. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
