Keep Calm and Carry On

There was a famous old poster produced by the British Government in l939 during the Second World War which said ‘Keep calm and carry on’. It has once again emerged and is being sold today. My daughter has one in her kitchen.
What is it that enables some people to keep calm through difficult daily circumstances? They have something deep in their hearts. An inner calm is the result of the peace that Jesus gives to them and Scripture says that God’s peace is beyond all understanding: ‘And the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 4: 7).
Sometimes during the war the people of the UK were called to prayer by the leadership of the country, the king and the government. However, in the current time of financial crisis, the government, although encouraging people to settle their credit card bills and look for better days to come, have not spoken about prayer.
I know people who are keeping calm and carrying on, no matter what war or catastrophe is occurring in their country. They are Christian believers who have had their sins forgiven by faith in Jesus Christ and are washed in the ‘blood of the Lamb’. They are now living their lives in God’s will. They spread this peace to their neighbours wherever they are, and whenever they can.

A peace that the world cannot give,
A peace that the world cannot understand,
Peace to know, peace to live,

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that, just as You calmed the raging sea, You can bring Your peace into the storms that would ravage our hearts. Thank you for saying – ‘Peace. Be still’ and for allowing us to carry on, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
