Is It All About Mii?
by Emma Cottrell
I'm living in the Middle East at the moment, and walk past a little white SEAT Mii car nearly every day. Across both front doors of the car in black writing is written: 'it's all about mii', which makes me smile, probably a combination of the fact it’s written in English, which is unusual here, but also because the little car is so cute it just catches your eye amidst the more dirty and dusty ones on the street.
I felt the Lord’s prompting this week, as I walked past, about how easily our eyes can slip to ourselves and what we think we need and want. Is it all about me, or is it all about Jesus? I was reminded of the beautiful worship song, ‘Jesus lover of my soul’. The chorus goes:
"It’s all about You, Jesus
And all this is for You
For Your glory and Your fame
It’s not about me
As if You should do things my way
You alone are God
And I surrender to your ways."
Paul Oakley
I was led to contemplate, and I encourage you to as well. Am I like the little car? Is it all about me at the moment, what I want and think I need? Or is it all about Jesus, looking to Him, trusting Him? Is there an area of my life that’s become all about me, putting me on the throne, instead of all about Him, and His rightful place of being Lord of the whole of my life?
Have I slipped into expecting and wanting Him to do things my way? Because, if I have, I’m not only hurting Him, I’m limiting what He can do in and through me, and thwarting His plans and purposes for my life.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for who You are, thank You that You know me intimately, what I need and what is best for me, better than I know myself, and that Your timing is always perfect. Please show me any areas in my life, which have become all about me and doing things my way. Please forgive me for this, and for thinking I know best. You alone are Father God, and I choose to surrender afresh to Your ways, which are so much higher and greater than mine today. Please help me to keep my eyes fixed on You, I love You and pray You would take Your rightful place and be Lord over every area of my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
