Seeds of the Kingdom

His Personal Care

by Pam Smith

The godly shall flourish like palm trees, and grow tall as the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted into the Lord’s own garden, and are under his personal care. Even in old age they will produce fruit and be vital and green.
Psalm 92:12-14, LB

We are so like trees. I’m not a very good gardener. I stick things in the garden and just expect them to grow and flourish, without feeding and pruning them or planting them in the right kind of soil or at the right depth, so I can understand what God is saying here.

The Lord can refresh us when we’re rooted in a close relationship with Him and when we say ‘yes’ to what He tells us to do. When we allow His Spirit to permeate all the areas of our lives, it’s like sap bringing His richness and fragrance into our spirit and character.

You can see when a garden’s well cared for. The grass is like velvet and the shrubs are all green and blooming. The trees are in good shape and, even in the dry summer months, stay green and continue producing luscious fruit. But the gardening is hard work.

God is like the Head Gardener. When we’re under His personal care and live close to Him, He refreshes and revives us. He makes the dry tree grow tall and flourish, and give shelter to those that come under its branches. As its roots reach the water of life, they bear much fruit, and the Lord is praised.

Even when we come to the mature years of life, the Lord will still grow new, exciting things in us and we’ll go on producing fruit that’s vital and green. The blossom on an old tree is often vast, and it’s as fragrant as ever.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that when we come under Your personal care, every day can be a new experience of Your love, grace and mercy. Praise Your Name. Amen.
