I was trying for years to quit smoking. I would give up for few days and would get back into the habit. But ever since I walked out of the retreat I haven't smoked and I truly feel redeemed..... Read More...

Hearing God`s Voice

The LORD said, Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by. Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?
1 Kings 19:11-13, NIV

I remember when I was preparing my very first talk on hearing God`s voice and I bought a book all about it. God spoke to me and said, “you don`t need a book to learn about hearing me, just listen!” Over the years God has spoken to me through various ways, through His Word, directly giving me words through my spirit and through others confirming things to me.

In this day and age there are many things that the enemy uses to compete for our attention and listening skills. It`s very hard to find a place free of noise pollution! There are so many other voices we can listen to instead of spending time with God listening to His gentle whisper. A lot of times God has spoken to me in the middle of the night when there`s no competing noise and He has my full attention.

If we have trouble hearing God`s voice maybe we`re not tuned in enough to His channel! Are other voices drowning out God`s voice, demanding our attention? If we want to be able to hear God clearly then we must take time to be with Him. As it says in Scripture, do we long for God and seek Him as the deer pants for the water? `As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?` (Psalm 42, 1-2)

Prayer: Father God, help me to stop and spend time listening to Your gentle whisper. In the busyness of life, help me take time out to stop and give You all my attention. I know, Father, You want to speak to me because I`m Your child and You love me. Help me to earnestly seek Your face, in Jesus` name I pray. Amen.
