He Sees Your Beauty

by Annalene Holtzhausen

The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior [Who saves]! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest [in silent satisfaction] and in His love He will be silent and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them]; He will exult over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17, AMPC

This has always been one of my favourite scriptures and with it comes a longing to really grasp what the Lord is saying here. Allowing this truth to settle in our hearts allows us to live our daily lives from a safe and secure place. Being known and acknowledged by our heavenly Father brings a sense of belonging that no person or earthly thing can equal.

We can be so conscious of all our shortcomings and faults that it becomes difficult to let the truth of today’s scripture really settle in our hearts. More often than not, we look at ourselves through very critical ‘lenses’. We focus on all the areas we still need to grow in, all the bad habits we still haven’t changed, that sin in our lives that is so difficult to let go of, all the things we failed in, or maybe we are just struggling to cope with life as it is and everyone around us seems to be flourishing.

This, and many other difficulties we are wrestling with, becomes fertile soil for the enemy to just keep planting more and more seeds of doubt. When this cycle starts, it becomes quite confusing to discern the Lord’s truth over us and how He sees us. The boundaries in our minds become blurry and we believe many lies from the enemy that eventually become the truths we live by. But these are not always God’s truths about us!

God’s truth is not found in our own or other people’s words and thoughts towards us. His truth is found in the Word and when the Lord speaks, and we listen, it becomes a defining moment in our lives. Hebrews 4:12 describes it so well: ‘For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart’ (ASV).

Today’s scripture reminds us of the Lord’s heart towards us and that the Lord sees us for who we are. He sees where no one else sees and even beyond all our self-protective walls, our sins and our failings. He looks beyond all that and still He rejoices over us. He sees your beauty. Maybe you think there is no beauty in you, but just turn to the Word and read Genesis 1:26a: ‘Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness].

Dear one, this is God`s truth over you. He has imparted something of Himself in you. It is there because He says so, and He sees it, even if you don’t. Take one small step and just ask Him to show you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, so many things in my life prevent me from believing how much You love me. I am sorry for allowing so many lies into my heart. Please forgive me, Lord. I choose to believe Your Word and welcome Your truth and healing into my life. Please show me the beauty You see in me, Lord. Amen.
