I will guide thee with mine eye

I live on a bend in the road, with a bush obstructing the view, which can make things difficult when I try to reverse a car out of the drive. So it seems to make more sense to reverse the car into the drive when there is no traffic about. This manoeuvre is, of itself, not too difficult, but the real difficulty comes when I try to get the car backwards into the garage, especially as there is not much clearance between the vehicle’s side mirrors and the door frame.

This difficulty has been overcome in a very simple manner. Initially, I line up a single marker on the rear window of the car with the centre rib of the garage door, then with a number of suspended markers I have strategically placed inside the garage. Keeping the suspended markers lined up with the mark on the window whilst reversing makes the manoeuvre relatively simple.

Just as it is important for me to keep my eyes on those markers, making sure that everything is ‘in line’ to guide me, so it is with the Christian’s daily walk with the Lord. This is where we need to keep things ‘in line’ with what we know from God’s Word, and let the ‘markers’ of His Word be our guide.

Endeavouring to live with everything ‘in line’, honouring God in this way, in the knowledge that He is also continually watching over us in order to guide and direct us, leads us further into fulfilling His will. This is how we learn to live a fulfilled life as we serve Him. But the danger comes when our eyes are distracted and diverted into things that are not ‘in line’ with what God has planned for us.

The writer of Hebrews 12:2 says, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith", so that we, by keeping ‘in line’ with Him, will always do those things that honour Him and bring added blessing into our lives.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You that You teach me Godly principles from everyday situations. Please help me to keep my eyes fixed on those ‘markers’ that bring me increasingly ‘in line’ with Your will for my life. Thank You for constantly watching over me and guiding me into the line of Your will. Amen.

He then moved on to become a lecturer of engineering craft skills before being called of God in his early fifties to become a pastor of a Baptist church. He says that,"having previously experienced an amazing healing on a day others expected me to die, it came as no surprise that God directed me and my wife, Margaret, to become involved with Ellel Ministries."
