God’s Thoughts About Me

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
Psalm 139:17-18, NLT

I was recently visiting a friend for the day, and after lunch we went to the beach. As we were admiring the wonderful views and listening to the waves, I looked down, and under my feet was sand. The first thing I thought of was that God knows how many grains of sand there are on this beach, a thought that blows my mind.

When I came home I was still pondering on the sand and little thoughts kept coming as the week went on. If I were to scoop up a handful of sand, God would know exactly how many grains were in my hand! The above scripture came to mind, so once again I began to meditate. God who created the earth and mankind has precious thoughts about me. They outnumber the grains of sand. Just think about that!

I think, as David wrote this psalm, he took a moment to reflect and to understand that God is all knowing, and yet intimate. David treasured the fact that God thought about him.

As I read this psalm, knowing that my Creator would take the time to think about me often and deeply, it kind of blows my mind. We, His children, are on His mind. He has plans for us! The Creator loves us.

God’s thoughts about you are not bad. They are precious. He wants you to prosper. His thoughts are of love. Long before we were born, God loved us. When we were born He loved us, and He has drawn us to Himself.

‘Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself”’ (Jeremiah 31:3).

Do not be afraid of God’s thoughts about you. I challenge you to accept them and grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus. Hold on to those precious thoughts. Know that God is with you wherever you go. Here are some scriptures below of how God thinks of us and how He loves us.

‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago’ (Ephesians 2:10).

‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”’ (Jeremiah 29:11).

‘But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners’ (Romans 5:8).
