I was trying for years to quit smoking. I would give up for few days and would get back into the habit. But ever since I walked out of the retreat I haven't smoked and I truly feel redeemed..... Read More...

Seeds of the Kingdom

God’s Economy

by Roger Pook

It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
Ephesians 1:11-12, The Message

Nothing is wasted in God’s economy!

Your skills, your abilities, your character, are all part of God’s plan for your life. That training course that seemed like a waste of time? God will use it one day. The constructive hobby that you thought was just something you liked? It has a purpose in God’s Kingdom.

Your love of learning, or singing, or animals, languages, cooking, music, sport, travel? Not one of them is by chance “the way you are”, they were part of your original design as God formed you in your mother’s womb.

Your passion for justice, or for speaking out the truth, for fighting poverty, for befriending the friendless – they are all inbuilt assets for the Kingdom.

Or your quiet nature, your experience of life, your capacity to sit and think, to read and reflect, to analyse, to understand how others might be feeling – these all have real purpose and immeasurable value.

So don’t compare yourself unfavourably to others. Instead, thank God for everything that you have and are, and then hand it all back for him to use as he sees fit. That’s when the real adventure will start, whatever your age.

Prayer: Dear Father, you know me better than I know myself, and you want me to enjoy what I am just as much as you enjoy me. I gladly give everything that I am and have into your hands. It came from you, and it’s all yours. I can hardly wait to see what you’ll do with it! Amen.
