Focus on What’s Important
by Tanya Person
Recently I hit my head really hard and got a concussion. For over a week I was really struggling with headaches and pressure, and had a hard time focussing. I am a person who normally likes to do multiple things at once, but suddenly I found it difficult to even do one thing at a time. I was struggling to think, and felt that my thoughts were crashing into each other in my brain. It was very frustrating!
I asked God what He wanted to teach me during this time. I felt He was telling me to slow down and just focus on what was important. I had so many things I wanted to accomplish before we closed for the Christmas holidays, but I just had to take one thing at a time and not worry about whether I would be able to get everything done.
Not surprisingly, God was gracious to me. Many people helped me with things that I couldn’t do during that week, so I could focus on resting and recovering. And the last week before we closed, I was feeling almost back to my normal self and was able to complete all my end of the year tasks. I just had to focus on what was important, letting the peace of Christ reign in my heart, as today’s scripture says.
It also helps to remember the Lord’s words in 2 Corinthians 12:9, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’.
I am so thankful for His faithfulness to get me through that rough time, and I know He will continue to teach me through subsequent hardships I may face. I hope, if you find yourself in a difficult situation, this will encourage you also to keep your focus on what is important.
