Do You Agree with the Lord?

As we read Psalm 139 where God says that we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’, let’s ask ourselves if we fully agree with Him on that, or do we have our own view of ourselves? I was meditating on it recently, as it got me thinking that, no matter how many times we hear about God’s heart and love towards us, unless we open our heart to accept this truth and agree with God on it, it won’t bring any change to our lives.

There are many examples in the Bible of people who saw themselves differently from the way God saw them. We read the story of Gideon, whom God called a ‘mighty warrior’, able to fight the Midianites (Judges 6:12-14), but the way Gideon saw himself was totally different from the way the Lord saw him. Gideons view of himself was in his answer ‘my clan is the weakest in Manasseh and I am the least in my family’.

We read the same thing in Numbers chapter 13, where Moses sent twelve people to explore the land of Canaan, which God was giving to Israelites. Unfortunately, not everyone had faith for conquering this land. Many of those messengers said that the land was good, but the people of the land were stronger than the Israelites, and that ‘we seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them’.

There’s conflict when our view of ourselves doesn’t line up with how God sees us. I believe that the way we see ourselves will determine how we handle life situations and difficulties. It will determine how we react to life’s challenges, and even how we’re going to respond to God’s call on our life.

The Bible tells us that we’re to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, and unless this transformation takes place it will be difficult for us to enter into the fullness of what God says we are, and what He has for us.

Let’s ask the Lord to show us where we’ve not yet fully embraced His truth towards us in our walk with Him, where we’ve allowed others to tell us who we are and what we’re worth, and where we may have compared ourselves with somebody else, undermining our own talents, gifts and ability to use the gifting that God’s blessed us with.

Instead, let’s agree with the Lord that we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ and answer like Mary did when she was chosen by the Lord for her mission ‘may it be to me as you have said’ (Luke 1:38).

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for Your heart towards me, and for Your love and kindness. I pray that You’d help me to see myself through Your eyes, and agree with You on how You see me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
