Desert Flower

by Tanya Person

The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing.
The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, The excellency of our God
Isaiah 35:1-2, NKJV

Recently we went to a greenhouse where they had all kinds of cactus growing. As I walked among all these different types of plants I couldn’t help but praise God who made them all! I felt my spirit crying out, "How awesome You are, God!" He makes so many different kinds of plants to grow in different climates, specially forming each to thrive where it’s planted. Even the ugliest prickly cactus is designed to bloom. Many of them have bright pink flowers, which stand out among all the grey rocks, and dull greens and browns around them.

Even as God makes each cactus unique, and all the other kinds of plants as well, so He makes each person unique. He created us to reflect His glory and to bring beauty into the place where we are. In the Gospels Jesus says that sparrows cost little but not one is forgotten by God, and He continues to say that we’re worth more than many sparrows.

Perhaps you find yourself in a desert place, with hard, dry ground all around. Remember that God hasn`t forgotten you. He sees where you are and He knew that you`d be in this place, at this time. He`s already been preparing you for this. Look to Him and let Him water you, so you can bloom for Him. You were created to bring Him glory wherever you are. Stay planted in Him and see what amazing things He’ll do in you!

Prayer: Lord, You`re amazing! You show Your glory through all that You`ve made. Please help me remember to look to You rather than at the difficult situation I find myself in. Let me be like that desert flower that blooms to bring You glory. Amen.
