Decree Life

by Jim Person

You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God`s favor] shall shine upon your ways.

Through the years I have seen many examples of the power our words have over our lives and others. There is nothing stronger and more powerful and more creative than one’s words. Out of all the things that God has given to us, (besides salvation)…the ability to create life through the spoken word is a blessing to us and to others.

When I was a young parent, my son, at 4 years old, was having difficulty pronouncing the letter “R”. One time after church, when the children ran and played down front, I noticed my son had withdrawn to the side away from the other children. As I sat down beside him asking what was wrong, the story came out that the other children were teasing him about his struggle with the letter “R”, and he had become downcast and saddened by them. For the next few minutes I looked him in the eye and spoke words of life into his little spirit, and watched as he was transformed through my words. Soon he left to return to running and playing knowing that he was accepted and loved by his father.

Even though I have read the story of creation many times, I still get excited every time I read that God said, “Let there be,” and something was created. The thought that God actually gave to us that same creative ability is astonishing. Just think about it…out of all of God’s creation, it was to man that He gave the ability to speak life into things just as He does.

My question to you today is: what will you decide to do with your words? Are you going to decide to decree His word over your life and those whom you influence, and see it established for them and for you? And by doing so, begin to see the light of God’s favour shine upon your ways? My prayer is that you choose to decree life today!

Prayer: Father, my desire is to live and speak in such a way, that others will come to have new life within them. Help me to decree life where there has been death, and to see Your light shine into the darkness. Allow me to reflect You through my words and step out into Your marvellous light, as it illuminates my way! Thank You for Your favour Lord! In Jesus` name, Amen.
