Deception

by Angela Weir

Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline, so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3: 16-17, AMP

Recently I wrote a ‘Seed’ about my Satnav and how I had refused to follow it because I thought I knew best. I was reminded of what I had written recently, when I went for a walk along one of the very narrow lanes near our house and met a large green and yellow van which had obviously been attempting a short cut, now trying to reverse back to the main road. I followed the van down and when the driver had negotiated the worst bit, I just asked ‘Satnav?’ and then if I could help redirect him. He grinned and said, ‘Yes, I was trying a short cut.’

Sometimes the voice we hear may sound persuasive and as though it was telling us a good thing. It may be very close to what we read in the Scripture, but just not quite the same. We know that in the Last Days even the elect may be deceived (I believe it was Derek Prince who said that if you think you cannot be deceived you are deceived already), so we need to stick closely to the word of God, following His directions and not allow ourselves to be persuaded down narrow and tempting short cuts or we may find ourselves being drawn away from the Lord.

Solomon began his reign well, pleasing the Lord by asking for wisdom rather than riches, but gradually he allowed himself to be drawn away from God by turning to worship the false gods which some of his many wives worshipped. Let us keep close to God and follow the Map He has provided for us.

Prayer: Dear Father, I truly don’t want to be deceived. Please keep me close to You and help me to seek Your voice and Your voice alone. Please guide me, Lord, in Your paths, no matter how tempting others may appear. In Jesus’ name I ask it, Amen.
