Clear Skies
by Angela Weir
There have been several Seeds written about Satnavs. I wrote one myself, on how we can ignore the voice giving us the instructions, and by relying on our own instinct find we have gone miles out of our way. This Seed is a little different, though also about my Satnav.
I was in Manchester recently and needed to find my way out of the city to go on to visit a friend in Chester, and being a real ‘country bumpkin’ unused to driving in cities, I needed guidance on which way to go. I prayed for protection, as I always do when making a long journey, and prepared to set off. My car was parked in the multi-story car park and I typed the address I was heading for into the Satnav and waited. Nothing happened. And then a message flashed on the screen ‘Make sure there is clear sky above you to receive guidance’, or words to that effect. So I had to set off, down the spiral ramp and out into the confusing city streets, not helped by the fact that it was pouring with rain, and there were double yellow lines everywhere so I couldn’t draw up once in the open to reset the Satnav. Of course there were no visible direction signs on the roads either! Eventually I was able to pull into a garage and set ‘Emily’ again, and found much to my relief that I was on the right road.
There are often times in our lives when there doesn’t seem to be any clear guidance and it feels as though we have lost touch with our heavenly Father. We need to be sure that there is clear sky above us. It may sometimes be that some sin has crept into our lives that needs to be dealt with, or maybe God has decided to remain silent for a little in order to encourage us to press on after Him. I certainly began that journey praying hard that I was going in the right direction and gave grateful thanks when I discovered that to be true.
Prayer: Loving Father, There are times in our relationship when there don’t seem to be clear skies above me, and I can’t hear Your voice. Please expose the sin, if that is the problem, so that I may deal with it; and keep me pressing on in the right direction. Thank You, Father, Amen.
