Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the LORD in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.
Proverbs 3:5-6, GNB

Years ago, a woman told our church a story about an incident that had just happened to her. A local government department owed her business a large amount of money for work she had done for them. The policy at the time seemed to be to delay all payments as long as possible, to help the department with its cash flow.

Many months went by and they ignored all her letters and phone calls. As a result, her business was seriously struggling financially, and she was extremely upset and angry about it.

One day there was a sermon on forgiveness, and she felt strongly that God was telling her to forgive the people who owed her and to write off this debt.

That was a huge struggle but eventually she came to the place of trusting the Lord that He was her ultimate provider. If He told her to do it, somehow it would be OK, even though logically it seemed mad. And she could see God’s point that the resentment and anger was eating her up and maybe she would never be paid anyway. So, what was there to lose?

So, she wrote to the local government department and told them that she had forgiven their debt, so they could take it off their books.

A week or two later, she got a letter back. They didn’t know how to update their books for a debt being forgiven. It wasn’t something their accountant had encountered before and he didn’t have time to try and solve it, so he had told them to send her the enclosed cheque paying the full amount they owed. Wow!

Isn’t it true that God’s ways are so much better than our ways? It takes real courage on our part to listen to Him and to step out in trust and faith when we know we’ve heard from Him. But He knows so much more than we do.

Has God been trying to speak to you recently? Have you by any chance been ignoring it, because it seems to go against all your own ideas and all your own understanding? If you know in your heart that it’s God speaking, why not do what today’s verse says and decide to trust in the Lord with all your heart, rather than relying on what you think you know? And may the Lord bless you as you do.
