You Can Choose Your Own Master

The one to whom you offer yourself, he will take you and be your master and you will be his slave.
Romans 6:16, LB

The more I see the promises of God and the more I see His faithfulness, the more I realise that what He says is pure truth. When He tells me to obey His words, it’s only because it’s for my own good and He can see the results of disobeying Him. He wants to rescue me from myself and the trouble I could get into. He doesn’t want me to have second best.

When I was younger, many times I chose to give myself to the wrong master and, indeed, the truth was, I became a slave to that master. God knows that the only master that can lead us into abundant life is Jesus. He made us, and He knows how we work best. He knows the best foods for our needs. He knows the best friends to have. He knows the best occupations to fulfill us and shape us. He knows the best activities for us. He knows the best places for us to live.

He lets us choose, but we can choose according to His truth, letting reverence and godly fear guide us and offering ourselves to Him, to be master in all things. But if we do make wrong choices, when we turn in repentance, He can restore us and bring us into the best purposes for our lives.

And when we walk in His ways and are blessed, then He will receive the glory for all His work and we won’t be slaves to the wrong master, but Jesus will call us His ‘friends’.

Prayer: Lord help me to always choose to offer myself to You and to make godly choices and to walk down the paths that You destined for my life, In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
