Seeds of the Kingdom

What You Sow You Shall Reap

by Beryl Puffett

Sow righteousness for yourselves. Reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unploughed ground, for it is time to seek the Lord until He comes and showers His righteousness on you.
Hosea 10:12, NIV

While on holiday in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, we stayed with a precious friend whom we have known for over twenty-five years. She had recently had a bad fall when she went for a walk near the sea. It’s a walk she does nearly every day, so she knows the terrain well. But, one day, she underestimated the height of the fence when stepping over it. She tripped over and fell, breaking her shoulder bone.

As she looked up, she saw the concerned look on the face of two of her friends who just happened to arrive on the scene at that moment. They were able to take her to hospital. It ended up with her having an operation and her arm was in a sling for six weeks. She was house-bound and had to rely on others to help her because she had to rest the arm which was in a sling and was unable to drive her car.

If you knew my friend, you would understand that she is noted for her servant heart. She is always making meals for others, taking them to the doctor, and encouraging and caring for them in a very special way. She also has a heart for the destitute and spends many hours at a Rehabilitation Centre, serving those in need. Now the boot was on the other foot and she had to rely on others to help her.

The beauty of all this is that the phone didn’t stop ringing. Many people offered to help her, and one friend even stayed over after work at her place to meet her needs in the evening. Friends brought food, they washed her hair, bathed her, and did her shopping, cooking and washing up. They also filled her home with flowers. Many prayed for her and brought her words of encouragement.

I saw God’s principles working out in this practical way. She had ‘sown’ so much help, spiritual encouragement and care in the past, and now it was her turn to receive. I am happy to say that she is now much better, does her exercises daily and is allowed to drive her car.

What a joy it is to walk in God’s ways! We will never be disappointed.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to walk in |Your ways and apply Your principles to my life. Give me a heart of compassion for others who may be in need. Thank You, Lord, that You care for Your precious children in such a special way. Amen.
