The Stain Remover

by Angela Weir

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:12, Amp

I recently treated myself to a new sweater in light grey and on only the second wearing I managed to splash some tea drops on it which caused a number of small stains. I tried various means of removing them, without success, and took to wearing the sweater with a long scarf draped over most of them, hoping to cover them up, but I was conscious all the time that they were there. Eventually I bought some special tea stain remover and have successfully cleaned my jumper so that it is now fit to wear, with or without the scarf.

We have a heavenly ‘Stain Remover’, who cleanses all our blots and blemishes, not only cleanses them away, but removes them ‘as far as the east is from the west’ and He also says that ‘I will not remember your sins’ (Isaiah 43: 25b).

So often, when we go to God to confess our sin, we feel the need to go back to Him and confess the same sin again, but we need to remember that He has already forgotten about it. He chooses to forget our sin: it’s only our human-ness that keeps the memory fresh and painful. We find it hard to forgive ourselves sometimes, and Satan loves to keep us feeling guilty.

When that happens it’s often helpful to confess your sin to someone you can trust, who can then reassure you of your Father’s forgiveness, and once the sin is brought into the open, it loses its power, and Satan loses his!

When Jesus died on the cross He died for every sin ever committed and every sin that ever will be committed. He said ‘It is finished’. The work is completed and He will never have to come back and go to the cross again, so know that you are forgiven and rejoice in the freedom He won for you.

Prayer: Father God, Thank You so much that through the cross of Jesus, I am totally forgiven when I confess my sins to You. I sometimes find it hard to believe that I am really forgiven, so please help me to have a better understanding of this wonderful truth. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
