The Lord is with Us

The psalmist describes situations of turmoil and stress as the earth giving way, the mountains being moved into the sea, the waters roaring and foaming, the mountains trembling, the nations raging, and the kingdoms tottering. And in the midst of all this, God says ‘Be still’? It’s a command. ‘Be still and know that I am God’. God tells His people to trust that He rules over all and that He ‘will be exalted among the nations’.
There’s blessing in God’s presence and He’s all powerful. When we have troubles we can go to Him as our refuge and strength. He will help us. Wars cease when He utters His voice.
There’s so much pressure coming against Christian believers today. There’s hostility in the public arena and sometimes in family circles too. Society, in many countries today, puts pressure on Christians to defend their faith, as ethical and moral issues are constantly discussed without any reference to God. Everybody has an opinion of their own, but debate is not calm and logical.
The personal challenge comes to us today to be still and trust God. Our Lord, Jesus, taught us not to be anxious or worried about the future. Instead we are to pray for God’s Kingdom to come on earth and for His will to be done. As we proclaim the truth in God’s word, and praise and worship Him with all our heart, we push back the Kingdom of darkness and replace it with the Kingdom of Jesus. ‘The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah’ (Psalms 46:11).
Prayer: Thank You, Lord Jesus, for teaching us how to seek the Kingdom of our heavenly Father and how to trust Him every day. Help us to remember to be still and find our refuge from trouble in Your presence. Amen.
