The Days of My Life

by Liz Griffin

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Psalms 139:16, NLT

I am so grateful for Zoom chat meetings after the church online service every week, especially as I only joined my church a year ago and I am still getting to know the many people who are part of it. After one of these chats, I was invited to be a Facebook friend of a young lady and I was so touched by a story I saw she had written on her Facebook. She had had the honour of meeting the specialist baby care consultant who saved her life and that of her mother when she was born as a premature baby weighing only 1lb 10oz.

She wanted to thank God for placing such a beautiful woman of God in her mother’s life to support her when she needed someone to lift her faith. “God You’ve never let me go and that won’t ever change. I don’t, and I won’t ever, take my life for granted. This life is beautiful and precious, and I lift my thanks and praise to You”, she wrote. Her favourite scripture was ‘You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous—how well I know it’ (Psalm 139:13-14).

Shortly after this, a precious lady from the church, who had become quite a close friend of mine, died rather suddenly, four days after her eighty-fifth birthday. As only thirty people were allowed to go to the service, I was glad to watch a recording afterwards that was made of it. Psalm 139 was read out and the minister sharing the message, who was her nephew, focussed on verse 18 which says, ‘And when I wake up, you are still with me!’

Dorothy had been musical and was a great singer. Her and her husband had composed songs, one of which was entitled ‘O the glory of His presence’. Now we knew she was rejoicing in His presence. Her eighty-five years were brief compared with eternity. Her time on earth was in the hands of the Lord. As the above verse says, ‘You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed’ (Psalms 139:16).

Prayer: Loving heavenly Father, thank You that every day of my life is seen by You and is precious in Your eyes. My times are in Your hands and I trust You with however long my life on earth will be. Thank You that Your Son, Jesus, promised to prepare a place for me in my eternal home. Amen.
