The Big Yellow Bulldozer

And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way.
Isaiah 35:8, ESV

I looked up and saw a bright yellow bulldozer; an enormous machine gleaming and sparkling in the bright sunshine. It was moving steadily towards a huge mountain of rubbish, stretching into the distance as far as the eye could see, and beyond. The bulldozer lowered its blade and began to push its way through the mass of rotting and decayed garbage, like a massive snow plough. It didn’t falter, or even shudder, at the huge task that lay ahead, as it relentlessly pushed on, carving a wide channel through the Mountain of Despair.

This unholy mountain was composed of every conceivable kind of decay and degradation. There were boxes of corruption and lies, and masses of shame and guilt. There were cans of deception and rolls of slander. There was poverty, greed, pride, dishonesty, idolatry, and every kind of sin. There was sickness and death. But the bulldozer pushed on, slowly and steadily, casting aside everything in its path.

On the top of the vehicle was a golden cross, standing high and prominent, gleaming in the sunlight, like a beacon guiding the way through the mire. As the vehicle channelled its way through, it created a pathway of lush green grass in its wake, soft and vibrant - a highway of holiness, carved through the squalor.

Behind the vehicle was a great army of believers with banners held high in triumph, all singing and shouting and declaring the victory of Christ, “Blessing and honour and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb” (Revelation 5:3). Jubilation and deep, heartfelt worship reigned, as the people marched triumphantly behind the trundling vehicle. It was like the return of a victorious army, declaring victory over their enemies and giving glory to their leader. There were peoples of every nation, dancing and rejoicing, unashamedly following the cross.

The procession moved steadily on, not in haste but in the certainty of victory, as the bulldozer swept aside all the weapons of the enemy, now rendered useless by the power of the cross.

I can only say what I saw. This was for me. But you too can have your own bulldozer. It’s ready and waiting. This of course represents the power of God, who is Spirit, and can be seen in many forms, according to our perception. Perhaps it’s the deadly sling of David, which brought his enemy, Goliath, humiliation and defeat. It could be the pillar of fire which carved a way through the darkness during Israel’s forty years in the wilderness. It may be in the strength of Samson who brought down the temple of Dagon (Judges 16:29-30). There’s the courage and faith of Daniel which closed the lions’ mouths, or the angel who walked in the furness with servants of the Most High God, and kept them safe. Whichever you choose, be sure to carry before you the cross of Jesus Christ, symbol of His death and His ascension to glory. The battle which disarmed all principalities and powers has already been won, so that we might walk with Him in the way of holiness.

Prayer: Lord, I want to be pure and Holy, as You have called me to be. I look to the cross of Jesus, who made this way possible, and ask You to cleanse me from all unrighteousness so I may be part of Your mighty army of believers, not to be swept aside, but to stand firm in Your grace and promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
