Repairing the Damage after a Power Cut

by Tanya Person

“Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”
John 15:4, NIV

The other day there was a power cut at our centre. It only lasted about a second, and afterward everything seemed as normal. Later, we discovered that our internet wasn’t working. It took us quite a while before we realized that the internet problem began at the same time as the power cut, but when we realized that, it helped us to understand what happened and why we had this problem. It turned out that two pieces of equipment had a ‘communication problem’.

So often this is what happens in our Christian lives. Something happens that affects us, either we sin, or someone sins against us. We don’t realize at first what effect it has had on us. Later we see problems in our lives and we want to fix them, but we don’t really know how to. We need to see what caused the problem.

The sin causes a ‘power cut’. God is our source of power and it’s vital that we remain in Him – but when we sin we interrupt our connection. And a negative effect still lingers, even after we have restored the connection. We need to confess and repent of our sin, forgiving anyone we need to forgive, and then God can repair the damage that came in.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to recognize areas in my life where sin has caused a break in my relationship with you. I confess and repent of my sin, and ask you to restore the damage that came into my life because of my sin. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
