Joy

The joy of the Lord is your strength.

In this wonderful Christmas and New Year season, there is one thing that surfaces spontaneously each and every year, irrespective of any temporary setbacks - and that is JOY! Although the UK is in the iron grip of its worst weather conditions for years, this has not deterred the look of wonder on the faces of excited children as they play in the snow, and equally excited busy shoppers who have braved the weather to buy gifts for their loved ones.

This season of good-will was aptly demonstrated by the manager of a major department store who came to the aid of stranded shoppers and motorists, by arranging for them to sleep overnight in the bedding department of the store, as their cars were abandoned in heavy snow. Recession - or no recession - in December 2009 when people needed a bed for the night there was room at the department store!.

Whether people are aware of it or not, the news of the birth of the Saviour of the world still injects spontaneous joy into the world. There was no room at the inn for Him, but His birth brought the most wonderful news that mankind had ever experienced. The angel announced 'Behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour who is Christ the Lord'. What a wonderful thing that down the centuries this great joy is still rehearsed afresh in the heart of all those who invite Him into their lives.

This infectious joy is also deep. It permeates every facet of our lives. It is, quite frankly, a taste of heaven!! If you have never exprienced it, it's not too late - don't let another minute go by without it - it will transform your life!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, as we celebrate the birth of your precious Son Jesus, will you draw near to all whose circumstances of life need your transforming touch, so that they too can rejoice with joy unspeakable. In Jesus Name, Amen.
