Jesus - My Expectation is from You Alone!

« Previous DayIn John 7:37 Jesus was addressing a crowd who had spent a week celebrating Sukkot, a feast at the turn of the Jewish year. With great expectation people prepared for this time, built the booths, drew close to one another, ate and drank and celebrated the redemption from Egypt and God's presence in Israel.
On the last of day of the feast Jesus said:(allow me to paraphrase) "If you are not filled up, still tired, still feeling incomplete and have some things missing, come to Me. Come and drink, come and receive and be filled up!" He invites them to receive from Him and receive living water to sustain them through the next year and into eternity!
How do we drink or believe in Him? David knew something about the secret of drinking, in Psalm 62:5 he says "my soul, waits silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him" (NKJ). David presented the situation to God and waited. His eyes, all of his expectation, confidence and dependency was in God alone to save - a deep trust in God's ability and faithfulness. I believe this was not a one-off activity for David, but a continual standing and turning his expectation towards God. At the turn of this year Jesus is inviting us to lay down those things that keep us from resting in Him and to turn our expectation toward Jesus so that He can fill us now with sustenance in our human spirit and be the source of strength on a daily basis throughout the year to come.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the promise of living water during this coming year. Like David I bring my situation to You and lay it down at your feet.
Lord Jesus I wait on You, for my expectation is from You alone, Amen.
