I am sending you

Moses was an exile in the land of Midian on the eastern side of the Red Sea after fleeing from Egypt where he had been brought up as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He had to run for his life when he was seen killing an Egyptian who was beating an Israelite, one of Moses’ own people. Pharaoh was determined to kill Moses.
Sometimes we might feel like Moses may have done. There’s some sin we’ve committed which makes us feel unfit for God to ever consider using us. This is how the devil will try to condemn us and make us feel totally unworthy and that God can’t use us.
When we think that way we need to reflect on the grace of God. People say ‘Grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve’. Paul describes it like this: ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus’ (Romans 3:23-24).
Here Paul introduces the marvellous truths of the ‘glory’ of God’s holiness, the ‘justification’ of us sinners (which means that God sees us ‘just as if I’d never sinned’), and the ‘redemption’ price which was paid to release us from the bondage of slavery to Satan.
When we came as a sinner to Jesus confessing and repenting of our sins the grace of God came into action. We were forgiven, cleansed and ‘justified’ before God. The price paid for our redemption came into effect. Hallelujah! It was done for us by God’s grace in Jesus. All we had to do was receive the wonderful gift - of forgiveness and salvation.
That’s our starting point and now we can move forward. God says to us, ‘I am sending you’ and ‘I will be with you.’ When God calls, He equips. He enables us to do that which we feel we can’t possibly do. As Moses did, we may think there are others who can do things far better. But God’s not calling them. He’s calling you and me! But with the call He promises to be with us, and to enable us. So let’s go with God, and watch Him do extraordinary things through ordinary people like us.
Prayer: O Lord God, I marvel at Your grace, justification and redemption. Thank You for loving me in such a wonderful way, and for all that You’ve brought me into through Your Son, Jesus. Here and now I give myself to You. Please make me aware of Your voice when You’re calling me. Give me the grace to respond in obedience to You. Please give me the faith that You will do amazing things in the power of the Name of Jesus. Amen.
David Silvester is married and has a son, two daughters and eight grandchildren. He trained as a production engineer. He then moved on to become a lecturer of engineering craft skills before being called of God in his early fifties to become a pastor of a Baptist church.
