Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Hearing God

by

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”
1 Kings 19:11-12, NKJV

Elijah was running away from Jezebel, as she had threatened to kill him. He was so afraid that he was praying that God would take away his life, rather than asking God to keep him safe. While he slept under the tree, he was twice woken up by an angel, who provided him with food to eat. That food sustained him forty days and forty nights, until he reached Mount Horeb, the mountain of the Lord (1 Kings 19:8).

Like Elijah, you may be running away from something you are confronted with. You may run from one country to another, or from one relationship to another. What is it that you are confronted with? Is it a threat, or is it control by someone? Is it that someone wants to bring you low, or to bring you humiliation and shame?

You need not catch the next flight to go to Mount Horeb, but you can run to the mountain of the Lord any time, wherever you may be, because the blood of Jesus brings us near to God.

Sometimes, like Elijah, you may be experiencing weariness in your soul and body, which causes you to go to sleep. But look out for those divine visitations of angels from the Lord. It could be a friend, a family member, or a stranger, who may just be there to feed you right now.

That will sustain you for the days, and months, and years ahead. But once you regain your energy, run to meet with God in worship, and in the word, and stand before the presence of God.

Like Elijah you may be expecting God to be in the strong wind, the earthquake, or the fire. But you may not find God speaking to you, concerning your situation, in the ways you think. Quieten yourself to hear His gentle whisper. You will then receive strength to face whatever you are running away from.
