For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16, NLT

I have recently been busy buying gifts for family and friends for Christmas, which is fast approaching. I have been looking round and searching for what I hope are good gifts, wanting to find that perfect gift that will bring happiness and joy to the person whom I have brought it for.

It got me thinking of the gifts from God, and I decided to have a look in my Bible to see how many gifts we can receive from God. And I discovered that they were free!

The main gift that really jumped out at me was that God gave His one and only son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was born to Mary in Jerusalem. Three wise men brought Him gifts. King Herod wanted to kill Him. However, He was not killed and grew up to serve, heal, and set people free. He finally died on the cross for you and me.

Christmas is a time when we can celebrate His birth and all that He did for us. I want to look at a few gifts that we have which can never wear out, gifts that are everlasting.

One of the gifts is eternal life. We can have it by accepting the Lord Jesus into our hearts and by giving our lives to Him. It’s completely free. ‘The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life’ (Romans 6:23).

Another gift is the gift of grace. ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through redemption that is in Christ Jesus’ (Romans 3:23-24).

We also receive the gift of righteousness. ‘For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ’

(Romans 5:17).

Those are just three gifts that I have received and am eternally grateful for. However, there is one more I’d like to share, and that is found in John 14:27. It’s the gift of peace, peace of mind and heart, and it’s a gift that the world cannot give. This peace goes very deep into our hearts. Whenever I celebrate Christmas, I give thanks for all of these gifts.

There are plenty more gifts that the Father gives us. I challenge you to have a look in His word. Maybe this Christmas you want to accept the gifts that He has given, and to become His child. His gifts are free and are waiting for you to receive them.
