Foundation of Life

« Previous DayIn the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and was God. The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters, timeless but awaiting the right moment. This is where it all began. God’s eternal plan was about to unfold. Then He spoke words of command with power and supreme authority. “Let there be ...” These words are etched into the foundation of existence. ‘And there was.’ The world came into being, with all the hope and promise that was to come. From nothing came the beginnings of an eternal plan conceived by God Himself. The universe was formed from the mind of God as a living testimony to the power of His word.
“Let us make man in our image.” Created in love from the dust of the ground and fashioned in the image of God, mankind was born. God breathed life into the perfect bodies of His creation. But the devil in disguise was lurking in the background. He made his entrance under a cloud of light but with dark intent. “Did God really say?” The deception was laid. With a resounding crash man passed through the light of love into the darkness of deception and death.
The glorious light of eternal hope and joy was extinguished. Death penetrated the holy aura and spread throughout the whole earth. Mankind would never be the same again, unless …
Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
His light pierced and confused the darkness. A spiritual battle never before seen on earth was about to begin. Hope would overcome fear, love would consume hatred and the promise of eternal life would be offered to all who would receive it.
But first the battle. The Creator was shunned by His creation. He was despised, rejected and scourged by those He came to save. Is this a reflection of our own world today?
He became God’s representative in a sinful world, taking upon Himself the identity of humanity, in a similar way to David taking on the identity of Israel in his battle with Goliath.
Jesus suffered and died for us all, taking with Him all who would believe in His name. ‘The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Romans 6:23). He paid our wages with His own blood so that all who believe and receive Him would know eternal life.
This is the testimony of countless millions of people over the centuries who have known the joy of a true relationship with Jesus Christ, who have confessed their sins, and who have received salvation to an eternity with the Living God.
Thanks be to God for His love and faithfulness, painfully purchased by the blood of His Son, which promises us an everlasting relationship with Jesus. Everyone on earth needs to know this. We need to tell them.
