Don’t Be Afraid

How many times does the Lord say ‘Don’t be afraid’ to us in the Scriptures? In how many different circumstances are we given these words? These are some of the most comforting words in the Scripture, but this time there’s also the comforting touch of his hand and the reassurance that’s attached to his right hand.

In most photographs of our family, my fathers’ hand was always resting upon my shoulder, because he wanted to affirm me, as belonging, as his own child, protected and accepted, and coming under his authority. The touch of the right hand has a whole lot of significance.

Many times we hear the Lord speaking to us. Then we feel the touch of his hand upon us. We know that, we know, it’s him. His touch brings peace. Since the Lord is directing our steps, why do we try to understand everything that happens along the way (Proverbs 20:24)?

When John fell at his feet as dead, it was a ‘nail pierced hand’ that Jesus placed on him, for Jesus won salvation and peace through his sacrifice. When Thomas doubted Jesus had risen from the dead Jesus asked Thomas to touch him. ‘Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!’ (John 20:23).

God’s truth stands firm like a great rock and nothing can shake it. It’s a foundation stone with these words written upon it. The Lord knows those who are truly his (2 Timothy 2:19). So when I stand before the judgement seat, I believe the Lord will put his hand on my shoulder and say, “This one’s with me”.

When I feel the touch of Your hand upon my life,
it causes me to sing this song, that I love You, Lord.
So from deep within my spirit singeth unto Thee,
You are my King, you are my God, and I love You, Lord.
