Choose Life

I call heaven and earth to witness against you that today I have set before you life or death, blessing or curse. Oh, that you would choose life; that you and your children might live.

The Lord has given us the wonderful ability to choose. It’s called free will. He didn’t create us to be puppets. He’s set choices before us. We’re free to choose, and the Lord longs that we will choose life, for He is life. The only alternative given is to choose death and cursing. I’m sure no-one would knowingly choose that, but there’s a possibility that, by not making a choice at all, one could find oneself already under that curse. There’s no coalition government in the Kingdom of God, and the Lord alone rules. The Bible says ‘And the government shall be upon His shoulder’ (Isaiah 9:6).

Jesus said ‘I am come that they might have life and that they may have it more abundantly’ (John 10:10). God wants us to reach our full potential and to live as the person He created us to be. He has a destiny for each one of us and doesn’t want us to miss any part of this. So He wants our bodies to be healthy as our spirit prospers, He wants us to have good relationships with others and be a blessing to them, as well as to Him.

Choosing life is choosing complete freedom in Christ Jesus, and we have amazing scriptures such as; ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him’ (2 Corinthians 5:21), and ‘For Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith’ (Galatians 3: 13, 14).

Who wouldn’t choose Him and live in a kingdom that God had given his children? As Joshua said to the children of Israel, ‘Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve – But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’ (Joshua 24:15).

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for becoming sin for us, that we might choose eternal life. Help us to love and serve You all our days. Amen.
