And God said to Moses, I am Yahweh-`the Lord.` I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai-`God Almighty` -but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them”.
Exodus 6:2-3, NLT

During our lives we experience many ups and downs - some more challenging than others. People often have the wrong idea that Christians should not have to go through difficult times. But in the Bible we read that we will have trials and tribulations here on earth. How we respond in these times of testing, pain and suffering has a huge impact on our lives and also the lives of the people around us.

The Lord understands our struggles and the emotional challenges that come with suffering. He went through the same, and worse, when He was persecuted, rejected and crucified. He is waiting for us to turn to Him for help and encouragement. Even when we feel downcast and close to giving up, He`s near. Some people`s response to pain, confusion and difficulty is to turn away from God and blame Him for the outcome of the situation. We can choose this response, or we can turn to the Lord.

In a time, when Moses was facing a very tough situation and also had to face Pharaoh, the Lord spoke to him and reassured him. He revealed to Moses another one of His names: ‘I am Yahweh - The Lord’. He then reminded Moses that He also revealed Himself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - but by another name: ‘El-Shaddai - God Almighty’ and that He remembers the Covenant that He made with them, where He promised to give them the land of Canaan (Exodus 6:4). Moses turned to the Lord in his situation, and God revealed to him a new vision of who He was, to encourage him to push through with the task he`d been given. Yahweh was with him, no matter what lay ahead.

Sometimes the Lord is waiting to give us a new revelation of who He is, in our situation; something that’s personal to us, and which will encourage us to push through, and not give up. He knows exactly what we need. We just need to take the time to be open to a fresh revelation of who He is in our lives and in our situations. He’s the Lord who brings peace, who fights for us, who brings righteousness into our lives, who’s close to us, and who heals and cares for us. We must never limit the Lord as to how He wants to reveal Himself to us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I bring to You the situation I’m in and the challenges I’m facing. Please help me to hold on to You, no matter what. Help me to not limit who You are and to trust that You will see me through every challenge and trial in my life. Amen.
