Acknowledge the Good That Is in You

by

Dear Father, I make the conscious decision to embrace the truths that Your word declares about my identity. I renounce any doubts that may try to creep into my heart. Please grant me the strength and grace I need to confront my fears, and place in me a deep trust in Your goodness and guidance.  Amen.
Philemon 1:4, NKJV

Have you ever found yourself struggling to uncover a single positive trait or quality about yourself? That feeling of self-doubt can be overwhelming, leaving you to question your worth and abilities.

Scripture clearly directs us to recognise the good within ourselves for an important reason: to communicate our faith effectively. In other words, this acknowledgement is essential for fulfilling our calling.

When the word instructs us to "acknowledge," it means that these positive aspects exist. They may be buried deep within us, but they are there. We just need to connect with them and bring them to the surface.

Denying the goodness inside us means we are not walking in truth and are rejecting God’s grace and the gifts He has given us. It also implies that we believe we know better than God.

For many years, I had a very low opinion of myself. I didn't believe there was anything valuable within me and was afraid to look inside, which prevented me from recognising the gifts that the Lord had placed in me.

Things came to a head when I had to complete a personality test at the end of a counselling course I took. Despite all my efforts, I struggled to answer the questions about myself on the form because of a significant mental block. I genuinely thought there was nothing good within me.

That experience was a significant eye-opener for me. I realised that I needed to embark on a healing journey to address the issues within my soul. It was not until I removed some of those obstacles that I was able to see the good in myself and, as a result, I began pursuing my calling and purpose.

The belief I had was contrary to the word of God, as shown in Genesis: “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day” (Genesis 1:31, NIV). Humanity was part of what God created on the sixth day. Therefore, when He created you, He thought that you were very good.

I encourage you to have faith in what the word of God says about you. Do not be afraid to look within yourself. If you take courage and do so, you may be surprised to discover the amazing qualities and gifts God has planted inside you. He created you to be a very special and unique individual.
