Passwords

by Gemma Gardner

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”.
John 14:6, NLT

Just recently I was online, trying to get into my account with a company, but I wasn’t using my mobile phone to do it, as it was broken. I was using my old kindle. As I wanted to buy something from this company, I went into my account. I was asked for my password, because I was using a different device. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember it. So, Dean my husband, came to my rescue yet again, helped me reset a new password, and all was well.

As I was thinking about this, I thought about the fact that there is only one way for us to get into heaven. The Bible says, ‘Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”’ (John 14:6). It also says, ‘There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved’ (Acts 4:12).

I was able to choose a new password on my account, but we cannot choose another way to get to heaven. Some people are deeply offended when they are told that Jesus is the only way to the Father. They want their own way. Some believe that all ways lead to God.

In Acts 19:12-15, the sons of Sceva, a Jewish priest, thought they would try using the name of Jesus to cast out evil spirits. But they had no personal relationship with Jesus – they were just using His name for their own ends. The result was disastrous.

People today also say the name of Jesus, some as a swear word, others in a vague sort of way, but they have no relationship with Jesus. The Lord wants us to really know Him and to live in close fellowship with Him. He knows all the ones who belong to Him. Jesus, and His death on the cross for our sins, is the only basis on which we can come to the Father. He is our ‘password’, if we are truly born again.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Your cross I cling. I thank You for Your finished work on the cross that has opened the way for me to draw near and come to Your Father without fear. I thank You that You will never refuse anyone who comes to You. Thank You for receiving me. Amen.
