Seeds of the Kingdom

You Only Have to Ask

by Ruth Hawkey

Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:20, NIV

There is something really enjoyable about being on your own and yet not on your own! I know that sounds “double dutch” but let me explain.

Recently I have been on holiday to Scarborough with some very dear friends and it is a joy to meet them for breakfast, to chat over the plans for the week and then spend the rest of the day with them either enjoying a day spent at a conference, which we were attending, or riding around Scarborough on an open air bus (on a sunny day I am glad to say.) That is the part of ‘not being on your own’.

Then it’s so nice to be able to retire to my own room after the evening meal or a supper drink and enjoy the luxury of my own company, which is also a blessing. This is the part of ‘being on my own’. However, as I write this, I realise that this last statement is not true! Because, whether I’m in company or on my own, I’m never alone.

Indeed I’ve found that which Jesus promised to be true: ‘I will never leave you or forsake you’.

He’s always with me, whether I’m with others or not, and, since He has no favourites, He’s always with you too. That is if you want Him to be. You only have to ask.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful promise of Jesus that He would be with His disciples wherever they are and whatever they are going through. I ask that I might know this truth, not only because it’s written in the Scriptures, but also because it’s true in my own experience. I’m asking this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
