Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

What an Invitation! What an Adventure!

by Ruth Hawkey

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation‬ ‭3:20,ESV

During the Christmas celebrations, my family and I were exchanging a few memories about life in the North East. We especially remembered the times we spent on New Year’s Eve visiting friends just before midnight, knocking on doors in order to wish the friends inside, “A Happy New Year.” Inevitably we were asked to go inside to partake of refreshments, especially to eat the remains of mince pies, sausage rolls and Christmas cake.

I don’t know about you, but this Christmas time I’ve had a number of exciting invitations, many of which have been hard to refuse. However, the above invitation from Jesus is exceptional in my estimation; the invitation which Jesus gave to those who would listen, to open the door and share a meal with Him.

First of all, of course, they had to hear and recognise His voice, and then make a deliberate decision to open the door and invite Him in. They would have been very foolish to open the door to a stranger. But just suppose Jesus is whom He claims to be. Then it would show great wisdom to open the door to the King of kings, the Creator of the universe, the Son of the Father, and share a meal and become friends with Him.

Sometimes we just have to take a risk, the risk of faith.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we ask that, at the beginning of this new year, we may be willing to open the door of our lives and ask Jesus to come in and share His life with us. May we be adventurous enough to risk believing that Jesus is indeed whom He claims to be, yes, even the Son of God, Your Son. In Your name we pray, Amen.
