Seeds of the Kingdom

We Shall Be Changed

by Pam Smith

But I am telling you this strange and wonderful secret: we shall not all die but we shall be given new bodies.
1 Corinthians 15: 51, LB

The advertising world tries to encourage us to change ourselves or our situation, and spend a lot of money doing it too. But when we are believers, the Holy Spirit begins to change us in many ways, restoring God’s order to our lives. So the change has begun in us. Yet when Jesus returns, we shall all be changed into a glory which is immortal. The same Spirit that was born in us when we first believed will bring about this transformation.

How will those who are dead be brought back to life again? Paul tells us the answer from the garden. When you plant a dry, little seed, it dies in the earth, and then God gives it a beautiful new body. A change takes place.

In my video club we’re making films about metamorphosis. The dictionary definition of metamorphosis is: a change of form or character. The caterpillar changing into a chrysalis and then into a butterfly, is a good example of this mysterious change.

There’s an incredible order in God’s Creation. Every living thing in the earth is wonderfully different as David Attenborough shows in his amazing films. Everything has a different kind of wonder about it. And so it is with our human bodies. They are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139:14). Yet the Bible says we will one day have a glorious body like the Lord Jesus, ‘but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is (1 John 3:2b, NIV).

The mystery of the Gospel is ‘Christ in you the hope of glory’ (Colossians 1:27). As believers who have Christ in us, we can be certain of this glorious change from death to life on that day. With this hope we can move on, in a steadfast, immovable faith to carry on His work, as He carries on changing us, even in this earthly life.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for sealing Your truth in our hearts with Your Holy Spirit, who witnesses with our spirit that we are Your children. Hallelujah! and Amen!
