For we are of God’s making, created in union with the Messiah Yeshua for a life of good actions already prepared by God for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10, CJB

I was recently watching a television special that was looking at what life is like on board one of Britain’s Trident submarines. I watched the show thinking it would be quite interesting to see what it’s like on board these cool submarines, and I was struck by something that came up and I felt the Lord was speaking to me.

The journalist was questioning the captain about the pressures of what it must be like to know that, with the simple press of a button, his actions would radically change the lives of millions of people. He seemed to expect, as I am sure many others would, that such responsibility would weigh heavily on the captain.

However, the captain surprised him by saying that he was confident that, should a situation come to that point, he knew that those in government had carefully pursued every option, and the situation had come to a place where this was now the best available option.

The captain also talked about the fact that he knew his leadership had placed him in that position because they had confidence in him, that he would be in the right place at the right time and that he (and the crew under him), knew exactly how to perform their jobs well.

I sensed in that moment that God was impressing on me that He has also given me an important assignment, and it is vital that I complete what He has given me to do. I felt so strongly that He was showing me that I have been created with the unique abilities for those assignments and that I fit the role like a piece in a jigsaw puzzle fitting into place.

This is perhaps nothing new, but I was grasping it in a new way. God has given me a specific assignment to do, and it is important that I do it. This is exactly what it says in Ephesians 2:10, ‘For we are of God’s making, created in union with the Messiah Yeshua for a life of good actions already prepared by God for us to do.’

I wonder if I would treat things differently were I to look at things in everyday life differently, realising they can have an impact not just here, but into eternity. How often I regard things as trivial and I do not realise that there may be a significance to them that I cannot see, but God does!

So, I want to encourage you that if you feel sometimes like you’re not sure if what you’re doing is important, or perhaps not having much of an impact, please know that in God’s eyes it is.

Prayer: Father, thank You that I get to be a part of the work that You are doing. Help me where I might feel discouraged or doubtful today, that I would know that I have been created for a unique purpose, and that everything I do for You is important in making a difference in Your kingdom. Amen.
