Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

Unto God

by Joan Rono

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Colossians 3:23-24, NIV

When Jesus was on earth He was focussed on doing the will of the Father. He sought to please the Father. In fact, He once told His disciples that His food was to do the will of the Father. Food is the body’s sustenance. Without food, after a while, our bodies will eventually die. I believe, in other words, Jesus was saying that what was keeping Him alive was doing His Father’s will.

When our lives are focussed on pleasing God, out of love for Him, then whatever we do, wherever we are, God will be honoured. ‘And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him’ (Colossians 3:17). God is not limited by place or resources. He can work through us in whatever we do, whether it’s at work, in school, in a bus, or even while shopping. If our desire is to do the will of God, then He will surely be with us in it. When Jesus was in a wedding party He turned the water into wine, and that was the will of the Father. Just think about it. The environment was a party. Maybe some were already drunk from the first jars of wine, but that didn’t stop Him from doing the will of His Father.

When you work, do you work as unto the Lord? ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all
your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving
(Colossians 3:23 -24). I desire this to be my motto wherever I am; to do all things unto the Lord. It’s not the greatness of the work which matters to God, but the love with which it’s done. Sometimes it’s not the big things in life that move hearts, but the small things. I found this quote somewhere. ‘Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbour. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better or happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile; kindness in your warm greeting’ (Mother Teresa).

Be God’s co worker. Be His hands, feet, and mouth. Smile in whatever you do, wherever you are. Do everything for Him and unto Him. When you clean your house, clean it as if God were going to be your special guest, because He is. When you prepare a meal, prepare it as if God were going to be sitting at your table, because He is. When you work, work as if God will be your customer, because He is. And when you speak with another, speak as if you were speaking with God, because you are.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You that You have chosen me since the beginning of creation to be your co worker and to reflect Your image in all that I do. Please help me to do everything I do unto You, for Your will and purpose, and out of love for You. I give You my life and chose to follow Your example. Amen.
